Our Process
At Smoke + Bone, crafting our premium beef marrow bones is a labor of love, ensuring each one is of the highest quality and flavor. Here's how we do it:
1. Hand Inspection and Sizing
We begin by sourcing human-grade USDA inspected beef marrow bones from cattle raised in the USA. Each one is meticulously inspected by hand to ensure it meets our stringent quality standards. Integrity and length are carefully assessed, then the bones are cut by hand for size, ensuring a consistent product.
2. Small Batch Smoking, Low and Slow
Our bones are smoked in small batches for over 24 hours using a low and slow method. This gentle process not only brings out the best flavors of the meat and cartilage but also prevents the bones from becoming brittle and thus susceptible to cracks or splinters. We believe it's all about the chew – a crucial aspect of dental care, mental stimulation, and overall well-being for your dog.
3. Preserving Nutrient-Rich Marrow
Our single ingredient bones have nothing added. Ever. No preservatives, flavorings or dyes. The low and slow smoking method naturally preserves and ensures that the bone retains its delicious, fat and nutrient rich marrow. Bone marrow is naturally packed with vitamins, minerals, and collagen, essential for maintaining your dog's skin and coat health.
4. Hand Inspection and Final Quality Check
Once the bones are smoked to perfection, they undergo another round of meticulous hand inspection. Each bone is given a final weigh-in to ensure consistency and quality, guaranteeing that only the best bones make it to our customers.
